NLCS: Phillies Beat Padres to Move One Win From World Series
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres 5-2 to move one game ahead on the National League West in the 2015 MLB Division Series. The Phillies are now one game ahead on the road, 2-0 over the Dodgers, who are also at home. The Phillies will need to win both games of the series against the Dodgers.
The Phillies had a chance to win the series with two outs and nobody on in the eighth and ninth, but they had runners on first and second, and the San Diego Padres had runners on second and third. To make matters worse, the Padres’ right-hander, Mike Adams, was warming up as the Phillies entered the ninth.
In the ninth, Adam Eaton’s single and Jimmy Rollins’s double put the Phillies on the board. The Padres responded with a run in the bottom of the frame, but the Phillies had their game.
Eaton doubled down the right-field line to score two runs and move the Phillies ahead to a 4-2 lead. The Padres added a run in the top of the ninth, and that was all the scoring that would come in the bottom of the inning.
Adam Eaton is a very important player to the Phillies, and with the way he’s played through the first two games, the Phillies were right to take him out of the lineup and send him to the bench. He was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. The Phillies were down by two runs with two outs in the top of the ninth, and he was not going to make it easy for them.
This was a good call. He will help the team.
The Padres, also, played well. They were down by two runs in the ninth inning, but they dug themselves out of the hole.
They sent their ace, Brandon Morrow, who worked a scoreless top of nine, to the bullpen as a result.
I don’t know if the Phillies can beat the Padres. They’ll probably win the game, or they will possibly lose, but they cannot go past the Padres in the standings. I don’t know if they can beat them. They are playing better, but now they
