‘Glee’ alum Kevin McHale says he wouldn’t play a character in a wheelchair now because ‘I don’t really think of anyone that way…I don’t think of them as a person.’
‘Glee’ alum Kevin McHale has opened up on his decision to leave the show.
The 29-year-old star of the first and second seasons has been vocal about his disappointment with the show’s final season, which he believes was “not good for television” because of the characters’ “not-good” storylines involving themselves.
“I was in tears, because I was so upset. I could not believe it. It was so hard, it was so tough,” he told Rolling Stone. “I thought, ‘I’m not even gonna mention [the show’s finale] on the show? What am I gonna do? I’m not gonna say that I was happy with that ending. I’m just gonna say, like, ‘It’s a wrap, it’s a wrap. Goodbye, farewell.’ But I have to [do it] because what else am I gonna do?”
In an interview with the outlet, McHale discussed what he thought of the writers and the show in general when they announced he would be leaving after two seasons.
“I remember when ‘Glee’ was over, they had a really big party for us, and there was a reception afterwards,” he explained. “The actors that had been on the show for years, it was like, ‘Get out of here! Get out!’”
“It was kind of weird, like, ‘Well, you guys are going to let your friend go,’ and then that first night, you turn on the TV and it’s like, ‘Glee’s over.’ And the second the season was over, I had that party, and then you turn on the show again, and it’s sad because they’re just like, ‘Well, you’re going, and you’re leaving.’ I was like, ‘I’m not leaving. Come back!’ So that was the first time I really realized that it’s not about me,” McHale says.
He added that the show was full of “not-good” storylines, as well as some “weird scenes that were weird”
