Donna Vekic suffers mid-air fright ahead of Guadalajara victory

DONNENA VEKIć’s moment of the game in the quarter finals of the Copa de las Confederaciones is well remembered.

At one point during the shootout in the Estadio Olímpico de la Ciudad de Guadalajara she found herself in the thick of things just 30 yards out from the goal. Her shot, which hit the cross bar, then soared over the crossbar and into the corner of the net.

The Croatian midfielder, who was part of the Croatia team that defeated the United States in the final of the 2014 European Championship, has always been comfortable in front of goal.

In the game that followed, Vekic scored twice and had one other great save to make. She even had an incredible save to make in the penalty shoot out when the Croatians were beaten by Iceland. In the end Vekic was named the player of the match and the assist team’s player of the tournament.

The 25-year-old has already played in two of Europe’s biggest competitions, winning the inaugural 2014 Under-21 World Cup when she was 18, and the European Championship when she was 21.

She was also a key member of Real Madrid’s success in the Champions League last season.

If you were to ask any sports commentator who makes the most impact off the pitch, it would have to be someone like Vekic.

Vekic, when at home, has a very friendly face. She’s always happy to show off her talent, especially in front of the camera.

But that’s not to say she isn’t a quiet person, she is very shy and often only really opens up when she is on the other side of the camera lens.

But when it comes to football she is happy to talk about it
